Tray Makeover

So I got this fabulous fabric my dear friend, Amanda.  Ever since I got it, all I can think about was what I was going to do with it.  It is right up my alley, funky kitchen style with yellows, oranges and greens.  I got this ugly tray the other day at value village for a buck.  I liked the tray because, it was metal and the trim was light yellow with just enough age it to.  So I used my mod podge and look what I made.

Supplies: scissors, fabric, mod podge, and tray

Cut fabric to fit into tray.

Cover in mod podge, I put two layers of plain yellow fabric I had, under the cute fabric, just to make sure my ivy wouldn't show through. 

Finished product, I am contemplating adding handles?

 Honey crisp apples are so worth $2.99 a pound, a little under $2.00 per apple.

Today, Jake had the day off because it was President's Day, and we took advantage of it.  We already had our paint.  We just needed a nice long day to take the door of the hinges and allow for proper drying time.  Taking the door off the hinges was the hardest part, they just wouldn't budge.  Finally after multiple attempts we pried all three hinges out and got the door off.  I thumb tacked a blanket over the door just to keep the cool breeze out and put the baby gate up.  Our living room/kitchen is our main room where we spend the majority of our time, so it needed to be baby proof. 

I wiped the door down with baby wipes, and taped in the necessary places.  We couldn't get the door knob off, so we just taped around it.  After spending so much time with the hinges, we gave up right away.  We have four indentations in our door and I started with them first.  I had a small roller but needed to use a paint brush for the creases.  I just went very slowly, as yellow seems to play tricks on your eyes.  I had Jake double check to see if I missed any spots.  I did a thick first coat, let it dry and then did a second coat.  We painted it in the garage on saw horses, we used a heat lamp (for when we had chickens), we had a small space heater running (that we turn on at night for the dogs), and Jake turned on his propane heater for me.  We only blew a fuse once.  As long as Sawyer napped, was about how long it took me to paint the door.  We let it dry for around five hours.  We put it back up and it was plenty dry, we just kept the door cracked to prevent any sticking to the frame.  It looks amazing and I feel accomplished.  I love tackling big tasks and crossing them off of our to do list.  It makes our house look great, adds character and charm.  I can't wait to make an Easter wreath and hang it on the door. 

I think we did a pretty amazing job, these pics don't do it justice as it was getting dark.  Now all we need is a cute door knocker.   

WE USED BEHR PAINT (CHARISMATIC-SEMI GLOSS) FOR EXTERNALS SURFACES (DOORS, SHUTTERS ECT) IT HAD PRIMER IN IT.  PURCHASED AT HOME DEPOT.  HOPE THIS HELPS.

Headband Swap

So I started following take heart blog and decided to participate in a head band swap, pretty much the greatest idea ever.  Thanks for the inspiration, Danielle.  It really was so much fun.  I bought $20 worth of headbands, got a partners info and mailed them, old school style.  And she did the same for me.  My swap partner lives all the way up North in Canada, her name is Amanda.  Check out her blog here,  for the last year she hasn't bought any new clothes, she's only thrift'd stuff.  Pretty amazing self control, if you ask me.  I got the sweetest gifts from her.  These were very thoughtful gifts.  I am so lucky to have been a part of this fantastic idea and to have met her.  See what I got...

Candle Stick Makeover

I got these three candlesticks from the basement of my grandma's.  I remember them all being turquoise and a little cuter but I grabbed them before anyone else could because I saw beauty in them.  My mom said that her and my grandpa made them out of left over pieces of wood and yarn.  This made me like them even more, that they were handmade by my mom and grandpa.  Here is a picture of them.

With a little cleaning and some Avocado spray paint they look quite lovely.  Don't know where their permanent home will be but for now they look great on our fireplace.  I know white walls and nothing hanging...but I've got big plans. 

Our Dear Little Valentine

We kind of celebrated Valentine's Day over the weekend, we spent the whole weekend together and crossed some things off of our to do list.  Sawyer and I spent Monday (Valentine's Day) at home cleaning house, I swear my house hasn't been clean since like before Christmas.  Jake brought me home yellow and red tulips and a sweet card.  I got him a card as well.  But the greatest present of all was our little Sawyer.  I dressed her up for daddy. 

 

Two years ago on Valentine's Day we found out we were pregnant.  We can't even imagine what our life would be like without her.
