Paper wreath

Since every blog I ever look at has made a paper wreath.  I decided to put my craft skills to the test.  I bought a 8'' foam wreath from Michael's.  I torn up an old medical dictionary I had, three hundred pages or so and used twelve sticks on mini glue gun glue.  I only burnt my thumb once.  I am very proud of my project and it actually turned out better then I thought it would.  I wanted to replace my Christmas wreath on our front door, but my paper wreath turned out way too cute and deserves a home in doors.  After I spent an hour and a half working on it, I touched up a couple spots in the morning and ransacked the house for one tiny thumb tack.  I was so excited I couldn't wait to hang it up.  Finally after looking in every door, cabinets and tub I had, I realized I had some thumbs tacks in a zip lock bag in the tool chest.  Duh, where else would a thumb tack be?  Neatly placed in a zip lock bag, in the tool chest, in the garage, come on now.  Sometimes, I am too organized and I drive myself bananas because I can't find anything.

I want a yellow door....

So ever since we bought our house, Jake and I have talked about painting our front door red.  A red door is welcoming and warm.  Our house is light blue with white trim, how lovely would a red door look? I even scouted out a house down the road, who recently painted their door red.  I gently knocked on their red door, admiring the color and the beautiful wreath they had hanging, to see if they would share the paint color with me.  Unfortunately, they weren't home.  Fortunately, this was a good thing, I felt a little more comfortable taking several pictures of this family's house.  I politely took pictures, then ran back to my car and acted like I was simply turning around in their driveway.  Then recently after reading a blog I follow....Stories from A to Z, a light turned on in the brain, actually it turned from a red light to a yellow light and something clicked.  Yellow is the new red, and yellow is my favorite color.  It was my wedding color.  How trend setting would we be with a beautiful bright canary yellow door on our cute three bedroom rambler?  I even considered naming my blog...the yellow door.  A married couple, with a one year old girl, making their house a home.  So I googled yellow door, finds out I wasn't the first one to think of this brilliant idea.  But I am still painting my door yellow.

Thanksgiving

I love this picture, I especially love Grandma's sweater I bought her.
Sawyer even played the piano for everyone.
Thanksgiving went by fast, it was the Thursday after the storm.  We had a big gathering this year, with all of the Patnoe's and the Godon family.  I worked four hours that morning at the hospital.  Then Jake, Sawyer and I headed to Leslie's house.  I made pumpkins pies and brussel sprouts with bacon.  It was a busy house, lots of great food, and it was good seeing everybody.  Gail gave Sawyer a peanut butter cookie,  it was her first time eating peanut butter.  Well second time, Aunt Allison tried to give Sawyer a honey roasted peanut at her birthday party.  I was really proud of this picture with all the kids smiling.  Next year Jake and I decided we will have a mini Thanksgiving on another day of the week, just so we can have our own leftovers.

Storm

Wow, what a rough couple weeks it has been.  The huge wind storm that happened, Monday the 21st of November hit us hard.  We had a huge tree fall on our house.  It also took out my Grandma's car port including, the last piece of Grandpa we had....his truck.  I waited a while to even write this blog because I didn't want to be bitter.  But when it really comes down to it, we are grateful and blessed.  Jake didn't even make it home because traffic was so bad that night he was in his truck for over four hours and didn't even make it off of 6th Street.  He ended up sleeping at a friend's house and parking the truck at a gas station.  He walked from the gas station to Safeway, bought a pair of gloves and a case of beer and walked all the way to almost Rob's Quick Stop and stayed at a friends.  As for me and Sawyer, we stayed home alone.  We slept in my bed together, it was so loud and windy.  Neither one of us slept very well.  There was so many howls, and cracks, and booms.  There was no way I was driving either.  When Jake got home he peaked his head into the bedroom and whispered, "Honey, there is a tree on the house."  Ever since then we have been dealing with contractors and bids and insurance companies.  That next morning I had to work at 11.  I am not the type to call-in, even if I did call in I would feel guilty.  So I ventured out with Sawyer, since Jake had to stay home and get the tree off of our roof.  There was no way I was leaving my one year old home with Jake, who had planned to be on the roof all day.   (It literally just cracked and creaked, crushing our not even two year old home.)  Belfair Highway was like the epocolypse, I literally drove under at least six huge trees, with hot power lines and multiple cars on the side of the road.  There wasn't much snow but the road was a sheet of ice.  After making it to my mom/grandma's an hour later (normally takes fifteen minutes), and seeing the dramatic tree that had crushed the carport, it was just too much.  It was just a day of shock and I don't think anyone was prepared.  I was so mad Jake let us drive in.  I will post some pictures.  Knowing what I know now, I never would have drove in to work.  I would have stayed home, a tree fell on our house for Christ sake.
